frequently asked questions

What is ouvert lingerie?

Ouvert means open. And in the lingerie world, that means deliberately open. On purpose. Built in. Exposed. Think bras with open cups, cupless bras, cupless bodysuits, crotchless panties, backless boxers or harness styles with peekaboo silhouettes.

Is ouvert the same as crotchless?

Crotchless is one way in. Ouvert is all the ways in. All crotchless panties, bodysuits and catsuits are ouvert, but ouvert also includes bras, bustiers and harnesses. Some of ours move between both mid-wear, without apology.

What's the difference between cupless and ouvert?

Cupless is specific to bras, bustiers, bodysuits and lingerie with... cups. Ouvert is the category that holds it, and everything else in your lingerie closet that opens on purpose. For example, the Déjà Vu 18 Cupless Bodysuit is cupless by design. A snap at the crotch makes it crotchless on demand.

What makes ouvert lingerie luxury rather than novelty?

Impeccable construction. Exquisite fabrics. Novelty open-crotch pieces are cut from polyester with an elastic edge and built for one wear. Luxury ouvert is engineered, so the opening is a designed feature with finished edges, real hardware and a lining, on a piece cut to hold its shape. Ours are made in ethical Japanese plongé leather, peace silk, Italian jersey and French lace, in micro quantities, in our New York studio.

Can you wear ouvert lingerie outside the bedroom?

Absolutely. We craft all of our play pieces to convert, layer and style in the streets and sheets. That's why we call it erotic playwear, powerwear and lifewear. It's also why we consider our pieces more than luxury lingerie. They're erotic high fashion, crafted to wear unapologetically. An open-cup bra reads as structure under a closed jacket or layers over another bra for creative styling. An open-back brief disappears under tailoring in a way ordinary underwear does not, or layers over tights and peeks out under a blazer. A zippered panty closes for dinner and opens after. That's the line between lingerie designed as fashion and lingerie designed for costuming, performance or a gag.

How should ouvert lingerie fit?

Closer, and more precisely, than ordinary lingerie. An opening only sits right if the piece is holding its shape, so a loose ouvert panty gapes and a tight one digs. Check the size chart on each piece rather than assuming your usual size carries across, and size for the fabric. Leather has no give, jersey has plenty of curve-hugging stretch.
